Nigeria superstar Victor Osimhen was not available for the first leg of Galatasaray’s round of 16 playoffs last week due to card suspension watching from home as the Turkish giants were humbled 4-1 by AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadium.

Galatasaray were looking to turn the tide but were behind in the 42nd minute when the visitors took the lead through Saiya Maikuma. Denso Kasius made it 2-0 for the visitors in the 55th minute but Osimhen reduced the deficit a minute later, his 20th goal for the club this season in all competitions but it was a little bit too late for the Turkish side.

Rolland Sallai grabbed the equaliser in the 70th minute but it was a little too late as they crashed out 6-3 on aggregate.

Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi was on the bench for the entire game, watching on as FC Porto failed to progress to the round of 16 of the Europa League after losing to AS Roma 4-3 on aggregate.

FC Porto failed to take advantage into the second leg having played a 1-1 draw a week before, however, they could not get a win in Italy as a 3-2 win was enough to see Claudio Ranieri’s men advance to the round of 16.

Tosin Kehinde (Ferencvárosi)

Nigerian winger Tosin Kehinde was on the receiving end of Viktoria Plzen’s Rafiu Durosinmi’s brilliance as his brace helped send Hungarian side Ferencvárosi out of the Europa League round of 16 playoffs.

Ferencvárosi had entered the game after their 1-0 home win last week, but Plzen’s first-half brilliance saw the Czech side advance to the round of 16 at the expense of Ferencvárosi.

Durosinmi opened the scoring in the 27th minute to calm the nerves of the home fans. Pavel Šulc made it 2-0 in the 35th minute while Durosinmi made it 3-0 on the night in the 39th minute to help his Sid advance to the round of 16 3-1 on aggregate.

Despite finding the back of the net for Union Saint Gilloise, Promise David Akinpelu’s Europa League journey ended in the round of 16 playoffs crashing out 3-3 on aggregate despite beating 10-man Ajax Amsterdam 2-1 away from home.

Center-back Kevin Mac Allister gave the visitors the lead in the 15th minute before David made it 2-0 in the 28th minute from the penalty spot. The visitors failed to add to their tally despite several chances.

Ajax got the winner in the 93rd minute of extra time when Kenneth Taylor converted from the spot. Ajax defended sternly to ensure they sailed through to the next round.
