Former Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, says Nigeria has a better chance of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations than they did back in 2013.
Emenike led the attacking line for the Eagles, scoring four goals and finishing as the tournament’s joint-top scorer alongside Ghana’s Mubarak Wakaso. Nigeria went on to win the 2013 AFCON, defeating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final, despite facing stronger teams on paper throughout the tournament.
The current Eagles team mostly comprises foreign-based players with two of the starters Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman winning the last two editions of the African Footballer of the Year award while others are currently playing for top teams across Europe.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group C for the 2025 AFCON along with Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. Their first game is billed to hold on December 23rd at the Fez Stadium while the second comes up on December 27th against Tunisia and their final group game against Uganda on December 30th.
Emenike who represented Nigeria at both the AFCON and the World Cup believes Nigeria has all it takes to break the jinx after a decade and win their fourth AFCON in Tunisia revealing that the current squad has more quality than the one that won in 2013. However, he has cautioned the team to take things one game at a time and also stay humble.
“I hope they win because we have a lot of great players. I think we currently have better players than when we played in 2013. I believe they can win (the AFCON) but it is also up to them to believe in themselves to go all out at the tournament,” Emenike said in a chat with Bold Sports.

“They have to take it one game at a time. It is not like going to the tournament thinking they can win it all but must take it one game at a time.
“Playing against Tanzania, Uganda, and Tunisia’s not going to be easy. Sometimes it is easy on paper but it is an entirely different thing on on the pitch. There are no minnows in African football anymore.”
The Super Eagles narrowly lost out on winning the championship in Ivory Coast last year after the hosts came from behind to snap a 2-1 win to claim the glory on home soil.
