Players of the Nigerian women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, have arrived in Saarbrucken, Germany for a pre-Olympic training camp.
Stars like Ezinne Kalu, Amy Okonkwo, and Promise Amukamara are among those preparing for upcoming friendlies against Germany, Puerto Rico, and Serbia.

Head Coach Rena Wakama is putting the team through intensive training to get them into competition mode. Their first test comes on July 19th in a friendly against Germany in Berlin. They’ll face Serbia on July 21st in Belgrade and Puerto Rico on July 24th in France, just five days before their Olympic opener against Australia.
D’Tigress faces a tough challenge in Group B, which includes powerhouse teams like Australia, Canada, and host nation France. All three rank in the top 7 of the FIBA world rankings.
The Nigerian squad aims to make history again. They were the first African women’s team to reach the knockout stages of the FIBA Women’s World Cup in 2018, and now they set their sights on becoming the first African nation to advance to the knockout phase of the Olympics.
