Chuba Akpom made a significant impact in Ajax Amsterdam’s 5-0 victory over Fortuna Sittard on Wednesday, opening his goal and assist account for the 2024/25 Eredivisie season.
Akpom, who had previously appeared in Ajax’s first two matches without finding the net, showcased his attacking prowess by assisting Bertrand Traoré’s goal, extending the club’s lead after Kenneth Taylor’s early strike.

Devyne Rensch and Youri Baas also contributed to Ajax’s goal tally, while Akpom sealed the victory with a fifth goal, solidifying the Godenzonen’s dominance. This emphatic win marked a rebound from their recent 2-1 defeat to NAC Breda.
Ajax manager Francesco Farioli expressed his satisfaction with the performance, acknowledging areas for improvement while celebrating the positive result and clean sheet.
“I thought it was far from perfect. Especially in the first thirty minutes, it should have been better,” he said at ESPN. “It was too sloppy. But of course, I am happy with the result and the clean sheet. I have seen a lot of good things, but also that there is still a lot of work to be done.”
