Nigerian winger Chrisantus Uche scored early in the game to pave the way for Getafe’s 2-1 triumph over Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Friday.
Getafe came into the match buoyed by a 1-0 win over Deportivo Alaves, seeking to achieve consecutive league victories for the first time this season. In contrast, Girona were under pressure to secure a result after five losses in their previous six matches across all competitions.
Motivated by their previous victory, Getafe burst out of the gates, with Chrisantus Uche netting his third La Liga goal of the season in the third minute, handing the visitors an early advantage that lasted until halftime.
However, Girona equalized shortly after the break, courtesy of Yangel Herrera’s 54th-minute strike, reigniting their hopes of a comeback victory. The home side’s momentum was short-lived as just eight minutes later, Getafe regained the lead through Borja Mayoral’s goal, ultimately sealing the win and claiming all three points.

The victory propelled Getafe to 11th place in the standings with 30 points from 24 matches. Meanwhile, Girona remained eighth with 31 points from the same number of games.
Getafe will aim to sustain their momentum when they face Real Betis in their next La Liga outing on Sunday, February 23. In contrast, Girona face a daunting task to halt their poor form as they visit Real Madrid next.
