The Super Eagles B of Nigeria were held to a 0-0 stalemate at Accra Sports Stadium against the Black Galaxies of Ghana in an intriguing game on Sunday which sets up an all-or-nothing second leg showdown at Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Stand-in coach of the Super Eagles B, Daniel Ogunmodede named Nduka Junior the captain of the side while Ozoemena Ali started in goal. The rest of the starting line-up included: Ismail Sodiq, Imo Obot, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Babajide Fatokun, Savior Isaac, Musa Zayyad, Adamu Abubakar, Sikiru Alimi and Anas Yusuf who led the team in attack.
The Super Eagles B started the game brightly as they sought to score an early goal, however, the Black Galaxies defended well and then began to press and force mistakes from the away side. The first half eventually ended goalless as both teams were unable to get the lead.
The second half was more intense as both teams battled to take an advantage to the second leg. Adamu Abubakar almost broke the deadlock but his strike hit the woodwork. Sikiru Alimi also got a chance to score, but he was not able to convert.
The Super Eagles B side continued to push for an important goal that could prove pivotal for the clash at Uyo. However, a mixture of unluckiness, missed chances, and Ghana’s strong defense meant they were unable to get the goal they badly wanted.
The Super Eagles B side will now welcome the Black Galaxies to Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo for the second leg on Saturday, 28th December. The winner of both legs will qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship holding in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
