CHAN Qualifiers: Eguavoen lists Rabiu Ali, 29 others in provisional squad for Ghana clash

Super Eagles interim coach, Augustin Eguavoen has released a 30-man provisional squad for the African Nations Championship Qualifiers against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Nigeria take on Ghana in the 40,000 capacity Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 22nd December, with the reverse leg set for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, 28th December. The winner over two legs will earn a spot in the African Nations Championship.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will co-host the 2024 African Nations’ Championship from February 1–28, 2025, which will be the first time in CAF history that three countries have hosted a tournament together.

44 year old midfielder, Rabiu Ali headlines the list of players invited for the qualification game. The Kano Pillars legend has been on sublime form in the NPFL this season, recording 8 goals in 14 league games. He is also regarded as a maestro in set pieces, as 4 of his league goals have come from free kicks.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars had the highest number of invitees with 5 players selected from the Sky Blue Stars. 2 players were selected from league leaders, Rivers United and 1 player was selected from high-flying NPFL debutants, Ikorodu CIty.

On Wednesday, December 4, all invited players are expected to arrive at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne. There, they will train in preparation for the first leg, which is scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on December 22.
