Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye continued his scoring streak for Enyimba, netting the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League match at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Wednesday.

This victory snapped Enyimba’s seven-game winless run in the domestic league, following their impressive 4-1 triumph over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup that also ended a three-game winless streak in the competition.

Joseph Atule gave the hosts an early lead in the 45th minute, marking their first domestic league goal in over a month. However, Nasarawa United’s top scorer, Anas Yusuf, equalized in the 58th minute.

Just five minutes later, Ideye, who had recently entered the game, scored the decisive goal, securing Enyimba’s first league win since October 27th.

Since the appointment of former Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma, Enyimba has shown renewed vigor. Under Eguma’s guidance, the team has achieved two wins and a draw in their first three matches, scoring six goals – a significant improvement compared to their previous two months under Yemi Olanrewaju.

This victory propelled Enyimba to seventh place in the league standings, 11 points behind leaders Remo Stars with two games in hand. While the ultimate goal remains to win the league, qualifying for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup by securing a top-three finish is the immediate priority.

Ideye has become an integral part of the Enyimba team, both on and off the field. His constant encouragement of his teammates mirrors the positive influence Ahmed Musa had on Kano Pillars during his time there.
