Premier league side Brentford have completed the signing of Nigerian-eligible fullback Michael Kayode on loan from Fiorentina, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.

After a standout season in Serie A last year, where he made 26 appearances and scored once, the 20-year-old right-back has seen his playing time decrease this season, with 12 appearances across all competitions.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles was full of praise for Michael Kayode, indicating his confidence in the young talent: “Michael is a player that we think will suit Brentford and the physical nature of the Premier League very well,” he said.

“We have watched him for a while, and he has probably been a bit unlucky not to play more games already this season. The structure of the deal gives us the chance to integrate him into the squad and Premier League football before we look towards making the deal permanent from the summer,” Giles added.

Meanwhile, Michael Kayode expressed his excitement about joining Brentford: “I’m so excited because I wanted to come here so much. I think Brentford is the perfect club for me. I love the stadium, the fans and my team-mates.”

“I want to work match by match but my dream with Brentford would be to help them reach European competitions next season,” he said

Michael Kayode also praised Brentford’s coach Thomas Frank, asserting that they had similar ideas about football: “I had a conversation with Thomas Frank and I love his ideas. He loves to press and to take the ball – I think he is a fantastic coach.”

When asked what supporters can expect from him, Kayode said: “I’m fast and strong. I like to give a lot of help to my team-mates, I like to advance as a full-back. I want to assist my team-mates to score goals and to win in difficult moments and difficult matches.”
