Boniface scores twice, assists in Leverkusen 4-1 away win

Victor Boniface opened his 2024/25 German Bundesliga goals account for Bayer Leverkusen with a brace during their 4-1 away victory against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The Nigerian international delivered a Man of the Match performance, contributing not only two goals but also an assist, helping his team secure their second win of the season after a 3-2 home defeat to RB Leipzig.

Boniface, who had failed to score or assist in his first two league appearances, started the game with a strong impact, assisting Martin Terrier’s opener in the 17th minute. He then scored his first goal in the 30th minute, benefiting from a pass by Granit Xhaka.

Mergim Berisha scored a consolation goal for Hoffenheim in the 37th minute. Florian Wirtz extended Leverkusen’s lead with a penalty in the 72nd minute, awarded after Alex Grimaldo was fouled in the box.

Boniface sealed the victory with his second goal in the 75th minute, striking with his left foot to make it 4-1. He was substituted for Patrick Schick in the 86th minute.

Boniface’s Super Eagles teammates, Nathan Tella and Kevin Akpoguma, also featured in the match. Akpoguma played the full 90 minutes for Hoffenheim and received a yellow card in the 91st minute. Tella, who started for Leverkusen, was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong in the 57th minute.
