Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo and attacker, Paul Onuachu will work under a new manager as Southampton have confirmed the appointment of former Roma manager, Ivan Juric who signed an 18-month contract, to replace Russell Martin.
Aribo, Onuachu and the rest of the talented players at Southampton will be hoping that the appointment of the experienced manager will drive them towards escaping relegation.
It will be a herculean task for Ivan Juric as Southampton currently sit bottom of the premier league table, nine points away from safety with five points and just one win in 16 matches.
However, the Croatian will have the luxury of working with talented players who can help him achieve what many would deem as impossible. Aribo and Onuachu are both title winners who have the needed experience required for Juric to thrive. There are also youngsters like Tyler Dibling who many view as the “English Yamal”.
Speaking after signing his contract, Ivan Jurić said: “I’m very pleased. I think it’s a really big challenge but I’m very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better.” “It’s important to immediately be connected with the fans. I want an aggressive team and I think that fans of Southampton will like that,” he added.
Juric has had most of his coaching career in Italy, however his experience in guiding teams to safety is more than impressive. The Croatian led Genoa to safety in 2017 before completing two top-flight seasons with Hellas Verona despite having one of the smallest budgets in the league.
He also worked at Torino for three seasons before he was appointed as the head coach of Roma to replace Daniele De Rossi. He was however dismissed just two months into the season, leaving Roma four points ahead of the relegation zone.
Southampton will hope that the appointment of Juric will be able to turn their fortunes around as they seek to stage a heroic comeback with the aim of staying in the Premier League.
