Relegation battlers, Akwa United have agreed a deal to reappoint Kennedy Boboye as new head coach in anticipation of a crucial second half of the season where the team will be fighting to secure safety.

According to NPFL insider, “MikeThePundit” on his official X account, the deal was signed on Monday, January 6, 2025 between the management of the club and Kennedy Boboye at the club’s office in Uyo and later this week, the coach is anticipated to begin training with the rest of the team.

With 19 points in 19 games, Akwa United have endured an abysmal season so far, placing them 19th on the table and only above Nasarawa United, who sit bottom, on goal difference.

Chairman of the club, Elder Paul Bassey has assured fans that Boboye’s appointment is expected to turnaround the club’s fortunes, indicating that the two-time NPFL champion has the ability to guarantee their survival at the end of the season.

The return of Kennedy Boboye will be greeted with enthusiasm by supporters of Akwa United due to his previous stint at the club where he joined in the 2019-20 NPFL season and won the league title the next season. Prior to his league win at Akwa United, the experienced gaffer also won the NPFL title with Plateau United in 2017.

Since resigning in 2022, Boboye has managed Heartland FC and Sunshine Stars, where he also tendered his resignation after nine months, sparking a war of words between the coach and the club’s management.
