Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa has fondly reflected on his call-up to the national team, admitting that it was a dream come true for him

At just 17 years old, Ahmed Musa made his international debut for Nigeria in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar, replacing Mikel John Obi in a 2-0 victory. He netted his first goal for the Super Eagles in a friendly match against Kenya in March 2011.

In an exclusive interview with Modo Victor, Ahmed Musa confessed that he felt shy during his early days with the Super Eagles, training alongside legendary players he had idolized.

“Getting into the Super Eagles was a dream come true because I never believed that one day I’ll play for the national team. My first call-up in Calabar ahead of the game against Madagascar, I was training with Joseph Yobo, Obafemi Martins, Dani Shittu, Taye Taiwo and as a home-based player, training with those players wasn’t easy so I was a little bit shy,” he recalled.

”Whenever we wanted to train, senior players like Dani Shittu and Joseph Yobo would warn me not to come close because knew I’ll always take them on, and they would jokingly threaten to kick me. For me that experience was a very big one,” Musa added.

Ahmed Musa also disclosed that his time at CSKA Moscow was the best moment of his club career. The Nigerian international joined CSKA Moscow from VVV Venlo on January 7, 2012. After a challenging debut season, he flourished in his second year, contributing 20 goals and assists.

He continued to impress, registering 12 and 19 goal contributions in the following seasons. Musa’s standout performance in the 2015-16 Russian Premier League earned him a top-5 finish in the scoring charts, a notable achievement for a player under 24 in Europe’s elite leagues.

“I had my best time at CSKA Moskow, I stayed there for more than five years, won a lot of trophies before I left for Leicester, so I can say the best moment in my career was at CSKA Moskow,” he revealed.
