2026 World Cup qualifiers: Nigeria draw South Africa, Zimbabwe, others in Group C

The Super Eagles must overcome South Africa, Zimbabwe, Benin Republic, Lesotho, and Rwanda in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in order to secure their spot in the prestigious tournament.

The draw ceremony took place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast during the CAF Ordinary General Assembly.

African football legends Emmanuel Eboue, Asamoah Gyan, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha. Emmanuel Adebayor, Wael Gomaa and Alexandre Song assisted in the draw.

With six teams in each of the nine groups, only the group winners are guaranteed direct qualification to the expanded FIFA World Cup finals in 2026.

The four best second-placed teams across the nine groups will then engage in a mini-tournament, with the ultimate winner earning a playoff spot for another chance to secure a spot in the USA/Canada/Mexico finals.

Each team will play two out of their ten matches during the FIFA window in November this year, with the remaining eight games scheduled between 2024 and 2025.
