Nigeria’s Edo Queens will face defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in Group B of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, following the official draw held at the Complex Mohamed VI in Salé, Morocco on Friday.
This year’s competition, set to take place between November 9 and 23, 2024, in Morocco, marks the fourth edition of Africa’s premier women’s club football tournament. The eight qualified teams, consisting of champions from CAF’s six regional zones, will compete alongside hosts ASFAR (Morocco) and reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), for the prestigious title.
Edo Queens, making their debut in the tournament, have been placed in a challenging Group B. They will go head-to-head with Mamelodi Sundowns, who are seeking a record third title.
The group also features Egypt’s debutant side Tutankhamun and Ethiopia’s CBE FC, adding to the competition’s intensity.
The tournament’s Group A is headlined by 2022 champions ASFAR, who will be up against two debutants, Aigles De La Medina from Senegal and South Africa’s University of Western Cape, as well as TP Mazembe from DR Congo, returning after missing the last edition.
The stakes are high, with the winners set to earn $400,000 in prize money, while the runners-up will take home $250,000. All teams will aim for a top-two finish in their groups to advance to the knockout stages.
