National Women’s Soccer League side Washington Spirit have announced the signing of Super Falcons defensive midfielder Deborah Abiodun on a three-year deal from the University of Pittsburgh.
She inked her first professional contract with Washington Spirit following a successful two-year career at the University of Pittsburgh where she was a standout player for the Panthers.
During her collegiate time, Abiodun, a midfielder impressed with her offensive contributions, scoring ten goals and adding three assists in 34 appearances. Her impressive performances earned her All-ACC honors in both seasons, including Freshman Team and Third Team recognition in 2023 and Second Team accolades in 2024.
Abiodun’s talent extends beyond the collegiate level. She is a seasoned international with the Nigerian senior team, having been selected for the Super Falcons’ World Cup roster in 2023 and the Olympic team in 2024.
The Spirit signed Abiodun to a three-year contract with a 2028 option, utilizing an international roster spot. Reacting to the signing, the 21-year-old says she is excited about the deal and can’t wait to take the next step in her career.
