Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was on target for Galatasaray as the Turkish giants drew 1-1 against Hatayspor at the Mersin Stadyumu on Friday.

Hatayspor were under immense pressure to end their six-game winless run, as they needed points to avoid relegation and maintain their top-flight status. Galatasaray, on the other hand, were eager to extend their 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions and increase the gap over second-placed Fenerbahçe.

The home team made a blistering start, taking the lead in the 28th minute as Cemali Sertel expertly slotted home a close-range shot into the back of the net.

Cemali Sertel’s promising start was undone by a costly mistake, as he gave away a penalty with a clumsy foul in the box, and Victor Osimhen made no mistake, converting the spot kick with a powerful right-footed shot into the top-right corner.

Galatasaray’s push for a winning goal was thwarted by Hatayspor’s determined defense, which held firm to earn a hard-fought draw and a valuable point.

Despite the disappointing draw, Osimhen’s goal means he has now scored or assisted in four consecutive games, following a brace against Kayserispor, a goal against Göztepe, and an assist against Başakşehir.

Galatasaray’s draw has taken their tally to 51 points from 19 matches, maintaining a 9-point cushion over second-placed Fenerbahçe who will travel to face Demirspor on Sunday.

Next up for the Turkish league leaders is a crucial Europa League clash against Dynamo Kyiv, where Galatasaray will aim to seal their spot in the round of 16.
