Napoli secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Salernitana on Saturday, with in-form Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen scoring his 13th goal of the season in the Italian Serie A.
The match, played away from home at the Stadio Arechi in Salerno, saw Napoli dominate from the start. Napoli broke the deadlock in the 45th minute through Giovanni Di Lorenzo after a well-placed pass from Zambo Anguissa. Osimhen made it 2-0 in the 48th minute tapping in from close range after Elif Elmas’ long range effort had hit the right side of the woodwork.
The win sees Luciano Spalletti’s side extend their lead at the top of the league table to 12 points, with the team looking increasingly likely to secure the Serie A title this season after over a three-decade wait.
Osimhen has been in impressive form this season, and his 13 goals in the league have played a crucial role in Napoli’s success. The Nigerian striker joined Napoli from Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer of 2020, and has quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous and most sought after forwards in world football.
The goal takes Osimhen’s overall tally this season to 14 from 19 games across all competitions for the Partenopei. The team will look to continue their winning form as they face off against AS Roma next Sunday at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Osimhen has found the back of the net 11 times in his last 10 Serie A games.
