Uzoho makes season debut in Omonia’s Conference League win

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho finally made his first appearance of the season for Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night the Cypriot club secured a 3-1 victory over Rapid Wien in a match that saw them dominate the second half.

After a relatively quiet first half, Omonia surged ahead in the second period, with goals from Andronikos Kakoullis, Willy Semedo, and Saidou Alioum. Dion Beljo scored a consolation goal for Rapid Wien.

Despite being the second-choice goalkeeper behind veteran Brazilian Fabiano Freitas and a little rusty, Uzoho impressed, making three crucial saves and conceding just one goal.

Omonia manager Giannis Anastasiou praised his team’s performance, highlighting their tactical discipline and depth. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, as even the smallest mistakes can be costly.

“We played a perfect match in terms of tactics and we were justified. We now have the mentality for the rest. We showed stability and the kids today realized what their potential is. With strong teams, we should be even more focused because we saw today that the slightest mistake can be costly.”

The manager also noted that the team’s depth was evident in the positive impact of the substitutes.
“We have depth as a team and we proved it. Now, let’s keep our heads down and watch the match on Sunday.”

As Omonia looks ahead to their next match, they will aim to build on this momentum and continue their strong form.
