Usheoritse Itsekiri fends off competition to win 100m national title

Usheoritse Itsekiri fend off opposition from a strong field to win the national title – his second – in the men’s 100m at the national trials for the 2023 World Athletics Championship held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo State on Wednesday.

The Delta-born athlete who claimed the national title in 2019, coasted home to victory in a time of 10.02secs.

Seye Ogunlewe was second in 1011secs while Alaba Akintola placed third in a time of 10.12secs.

The women 100m was more competitive with Blessing Ogundiran winning her first national title in a time of 11.50secs.

African U-18 100m/200m champion Faith Okwose, was second in 11.51secs, while Ese Brume placed third with a time of 11.52secs, same time as Victory Godah who was fourth.
