Red-hot Nigerian striker, Tolu Arokodare, is making waves in the Belgian Pro League, taking the lead in the race for the Golden Boot. Arokodare netted his seventh goal of the season in Genk’s thrilling 3-2 win over nine-man Sint-Truiden on Sunday.

Arokodare opened the scoring in the 18th minute, just three minutes after Sint-Truiden’s Shogo Taniguchi was sent off for a foul. Genk doubled their lead through Jarne Steuckers in the 31st minute, while Arokodare’s assist for Zakaria El Ouahdi’s goal just before halftime proved decisive.

Although Adriano Bertaccini’s brace gave Sint-Truiden hope, their chances faded when Billal Brahimi saw red in the 96th minute.

Arokodare now leads the goal-scoring charts with seven goals in 11 appearances, edging out both Bertaccini and Sporting Charleroi’s Daan Heymans, who are tied with six goals each. Remarkably, Arokodare is just one goal away from matching his entire tally from last season, where he scored eight goals in 29 games.

His red-hot form has been key to Genk’s dominance, as they currently sit top of the table with 25 points, five ahead of second-placed Antwerp.

Arokodare will be aiming to equal and surpass last season’s goal tally when Genk faces Gent in a highly anticipated city derby next Sunday.
