Team Nigeria emerged as the overall champions of the ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Junior Tennis Championship, which took place in Lome, Togo.
The Nigerian team’s victory was sealed after winning three individual titles and delivering impressive performances in the team event, which concluded on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Nigeria dominated the team events, winning the boys’ and girls’ U-14 categories with convincing victories, while the U-16 boys’ team secured second place, and the girls’ team finished third.
A total of nine countries participated in the week-long tournament, including Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo, Mali, Cameroon, Guinea, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria.
Nigeria’s outstanding performance earned them a massive 1120 points, securing their top spot, while Cameroon came second with 865 points, and Benin Republic took third place with 610 points.
The victorious Nigerian team is expected to return home on Monday, January 20, 2025, with some team members set to participate in the TPPA-UTR event at the Lagos Country Club in Ikeja.
