Taiwo Mati Eyes National Team Return After Joining French Club

Former West African table tennis champion Taiwo Mati has joined French Pro B side Le Havre, aiming to boost his chances of rejoining the Nigerian national team.

After two seasons in Portugal, Mati believes playing in France will enhance his skills and increase his opportunities for a national team recall.

“I moved to France to push myself further and compete in a stronger league. My goal is to improve and play as many matches as possible. The French leagues, both Pro A and B, are more competitive than the Portuguese league,” Mati said.

In addition to his role at Le Havre, Mati is planning to participate in more World Table Tennis (WTT) events to earn crucial ranking points. “I intend to compete in more WTT events and gain ranking points. This will help me get back into the national team,” he added.

Since joining Le Havre, Mati has become an essential player for the team. In their opening match of the season against Nice, Le Havre claimed a 3-2 victory, setting the stage for a strong campaign as they push for promotion to Pro A.
