In a grand gesture of appreciation and motivation, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko donated 10 million Naira to the Super Eagles B side following their impressive 3-1 victory against the Black Galaxies of Ghana at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo to qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship.
The remarkable achievement means Nigeria will play at the CHAN for the first time in six years after missing out on consecutive tournaments in previous years.
The 10 million Naira pledge was originally suggested by NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade prior to the game at Uyo. However, Shehu Dikko decided to take up the responsibility to congratulate and motivate the team for their hardwork and dedication.
“Before the game, I made a personal pledge to reward the team if they emerged victorious,” Hon. Olopade revealed. “When I shared this with Mallam Shehu Dikko, he immediately applauded the idea but insisted on making the donation himself as a sign of appreciation for the players’ efforts,” he added.
Hon. Olopade further applauded the kind gesture of the chairman, asserting that it shows his passion for Nigerian football: “It was a heartfelt moment that truly shows his passion for Nigerian football and the athletes who represent our country. His generosity has further inspired the team, and we are incredibly grateful for his leadership,” he said.
The 2025 African Nations Championship will be the first ever to take place in three different countries as it will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda from February 1 – 28, 2025.
