Southampton host in-form Chelsea at the St Mary’s stadium on Wednesday, November 4 and they will be hopeful that Paul Onuachu is fit enough to start or play a part in the game as they seek to stage an upset against the London outfit.

The Puskas award nominee got injured in a 3-2 loss against Liverpool where he collided with Dutch international, Cody Gakpo just after the half time.

While Onuachu has not gotten enough game time this season, Southampton have also struggled to score goals. The Saints have only managed to score 10 goals this season, tied with Everton as the teams with the least goals scored in the division.

Meanwhile, despite heavy criticism at the beginning of the season, Chelsea have turned doubters to believers with their unstoppable attacking prowess and the ability to dominate teams. However, the Blues are often susceptible of making mistakes at the back. Their goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, has made the most errors leading to goals this season (3).

Onuachu’s aerial prowess, his technical ability to weave out of danger as displayed against league leaders, Liverpool, and his off-the-ball work is the sort of profile that Southampton will need if they are to pose any danger against Chelsea.

Speaking to the press, Southampton Gaffer, Russell Martin expressed optimism as regards the fitness of the Super Eagles forward: “We’re hopeful that Paul will be involved on Wednesday,” he said.
