Three Premier League clubs—Southampton, Bournemouth, and Ipswich Town—have expressed interest in signing one-cap Super Eagles striker Josh Maja from Championship side West Brom during the January transfer window, according to Fichajes, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigeria international, who has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 24 English Championship appearances this season, has been the focus of transfer speculation in recent weeks. La Liga side Celta Vigo are also reportedly keen on Maja, while rumors suggest he could reunite with former West Brom manager Carlos Corberán at Valencia.
Each of the Premier League clubs are seeking a reliable striker for different reasons, and Maja, a former Bordeaux forward, appears to be a fitting option.
Ipswich Town and Southampton are both battling relegation and see Maja as a key player to bolster their survival campaigns. Meanwhile, Bournemouth is looking to add depth and strengthen their attacking options ahead of the second half of the season.
West Brom are reportedly open to selling the 26-year-old striker but will only entertain offers meeting their €12 million valuation—a reasonable price for a player of Maja’s caliber.
With the January transfer window just days away, competition for Maja’s signature is expected to intensify amongst the three Premier League clubs, a couple of La Liga clubs and teams outside of Europe’s top five leagues.
Maja, a Sunderland academy graduate, has spent much of his career in the Championship and French Ligue 1. However, he has prior Premier League experience, scoring three goals in 15 appearances for Fulham during a loan spell in the 2020/21 season.
