The Nigeria Football Federation’s Executive Committee officially approved the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, following a recommendation by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee on January 7, 2025.
Puzzled by the appointment, Nigerians have been seeking clarity on the contract terms agreed upon between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and representatives of newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Éric Sékou Chelle, a Malian national.
According to OwngoalNigeria.com, the new coach agreed to a short-term deal to lead the team through the World Cup qualifiers, which concludes in October.
He will be joined by two assistants, who will receive a monthly salary of $5,000. The coach himself will earn $50,000 per month, a significant pay cut from his current salary at MC Oran in Algeria.
Éric Sékou Chelle’s technical team will include Nigerian coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu. Additionally, Chelle will also oversee the home-based Super Eagles team, comprised of NPFL players, for the upcoming CHAN Championship.
