Nasarawa United pulled off a stunning upset, defeating league leaders Remo Stars 1-0 in their Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) clash at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday.
Remo Stars were brimming with confidence ahead of the game, having suffered only one loss in their previous ten league matches, which had helped them significantly extend their lead over other title contenders. In contrast, Nasarawa United were desperate for a win to keep their hopes alive and avoid relegation.
The league leaders made a strong start, eager to avoid consecutive away defeats. However, their momentum was halted in the 25th minute when goal scoring machine Anas Yusuf, netted to give Nasarawa United the lead in front of their home crowd.
The home side nearly doubled their advantage shortly after, but Obassa Adeniyi made a crucial save, denying a goal-bound strike and giving Remo Stars a glimmer of hope going into halftime.

Remo Stars launched a fierce attack in the second half, seeking to score an equalizer and potentially snatch victory. Nevertheless, Nasarawa United’s defense remained resolute, thwarting Remo Stars’ efforts and ultimately securing a hard-fought win.
The victory marks Nasarawa United’s seventh consecutive unbeaten game at home, a feat that could prove crucial in their bid to avoid relegation. The “Solid Miners” now occupy 18th place on the table with 27 points from 26 games.
Remo Stars, despite suffering back-to-back away defeats, remain comfortably at the top of the table, leading second-placed Shooting Stars, who drew with Enyimba, by nine points. The league leaders will aim to bounce back when they host Plateau United at Ikenne on Saturday.
