Primal Sporting emerged victorious in the inaugural Lagos Liga, coming from behind to defeat Applebee FC 9-8 on penalties in a thrilling final that ended 1-1 in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. This hard-fought victory secured them the coveted N50 million grand prize.
The match, a clash between two of the league’s top contenders, lived up to the hype. Applebee’s Raheem Ishola broke the deadlock with a goal following a signature team play.
Primal Sporting desperately sought an equalizer before halftime, but their closest attempt, a shot from Hassan Abba, was brilliantly saved by Applebee’s goalkeeper, deflecting the ball onto the crossbar. This crucial save allowed Applebee to maintain their 1-0 lead going into the break.
With the game in its final minute, Primal Sporting grabbed an equalizer forcing the game into extra time and eventually penalties.
Primal Sporting won the game after scoring nine straight spot kicks while Applebee missed their last kick.
