Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen has emphasised that a positive mindset, coupled with treating each game as a final, will be crucial for Nigeria’s hopes of securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
In an interview with Brila FM, Eguavoen explained the approach the Super Eagles need to adopt in their remaining qualifying matches.
“Positive thinking, if we approach every game like a cup final, leave the rest, put up your best, play your hearts out, don’t look at game two, focus on the game right in front of you,” Eguavoen said.
The coach highlighted the importance of focus and determination, stressing that even narrow victories could be the difference in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
“Once we can win those games 1-0 each, we have a big chance,” he added.
Eguavoen’s comments come as Nigeria faces mounting pressure to perform in the qualifiers, with the Super Eagles currently sitting fifth in the group with three points from four matches. Their 2026 World Cup qualification is under serious threat following 1-1 draws against Lesotho, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and a 2-1 loss to Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic side.
