Victor Osimhen has once again put his name in Napoli’s history books after becoming the third player in the club’s history to score 10+ goals in four consecutive Italian Serie A seasons, according to Opta Paolo.

Osimhen scored a hat-trick, his first of the season, and assisted one goal as Napoli thrashed Sassuolo 6-1 away from home. The Partenopei are hoping the win will turn their season around after a slow start that saw the management sack two managers, Rudi Garcia, and Walter Mazzarri before hiring Francesco Calzona as caretaker manager last week.

The hat-trick takes Osimhen’s tally to 11 league goals in 15 games. This means the Nigerian has scored a minimum of 10 goals in each season since joining the club from French side Lille in the summer of 2020.

Osimhen scored 10 goals in 24 league games in his first season. He grabbed 14 goals in 27 games the next season while he had a breakthrough season scoring 26 goals in 32 games last season to win the Golden Boot, becoming the first African in the history of the league to achieve such a feat.

According to OptaPaolo, Osimhen has joined an all-exclusive club of Diego Maradona who achieved the feat between 1984/85 and 1987/88, and Attila Sallustro who set the record between 1929/30 and 1932/33.
