Super Eagles defender, Gabriel Osho put in a defensively strong performance as Auxerre dug deep to earn a valuable point against league leaders, Paris Saint Germain in a 0-0 stalemate at Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps.
Auxerre Head Coach, Christophe Pelissier set up in his trademark 3-4-3 formation with Gabriel Osho, Jubal, and Clement Akpa forming a back three to curtail PSG’s rapid attacking force.
The home team’s defense was impressive in the first half, denying PSG of creating chances that could lead to goals. They were also helped by VAR as Bradley Barcola was caught offside in the build up to Fabian Ruiz’s goal.
The second half was a much better outing for the French Champions. They started to create more chances and they almost got the lead as Vitinha’s fine effort hit the crossbar.
More drama ensued in the final minutes of the game as Auxerre Goalkeeper, Leon, made two brilliant saves in injury-time to deny substitutes Randal Kolo Muani and Desire Doue.
Auxerre’s defensive solidity and determination eventually earned them a point, drawing them closer to the European spots as they are only behind 6th-placed Nice on goal difference.
They host Lens next in a pivotal fixture that could be important for their aspirations. Meanwhile, more pressure is piling on Luis Enrique as PSG have now gone three games without a win. They visit Salzburg next in the Champions League as they attempt to bounce back to form.
