Super Eagles defender, Gabriel Osho scored his first goal for Auxerre since moving to the French club in the summer, to help them rescue a point against Lens at Stade de l’Abbé Deschamps, Auxerre on Saturday.

Auxerre Head Coach, Christophe Pelissier made two changes to the side that drew against Paris Saint Germain as Paul Joly and Ado Onaiwu were introduced to replace Ki-Jana Hoever and Hamed Traorè. Gabriel Osho remained in the right center back position alongside Jubal and Clement Akpa, forming a solid defensive partnership.

Lens got the first goal of the exciting encounter courtesy of Neil El Aynaoui’a strike in the 22nd minute, however, Auxerre equalised shortly after with an unstoppable free kick to the top left corner by Gaëtan Perrin before Lens regained their advantage few minutes to the half time whistle with M’bala Nzola’s fourth goal of the league season.

The second half resumed with Lens assuming cruise control until the 73rd minute when Lassine Sinayoko found Gabriel Osho with a well delivered cross that was headed in by the Nigerian beyond Brice Samba to level the score line for the second time.

Following the equalizer, Lens came all out with the intention of regaining their lead for the third time, however, Auxerre’s defense stayed resilient and undeterred to gain a valuable point which places them ninth on the Ligue 1 table with 21 points in 15 games.

Speaking after the game, Pélissier suggested that he is satisfied with the performance of his players: “Scoring two goals against the best defense in the championship, while being behind twice, shows our strength of character. We are happy to take this point. I am satisfied with the state of mind,” he said

Up next, Auxerre will host Dunkerque in the Coupe De France before going away to battle against the young and exciting Strasbourg side in the first game of the new year.
