Striker Paul Onuachu has dedicated his first-ever Southampton goal to the fans who have supported him since joining the club and are rooting for him to succeed.

Onuachu grabbed his first goal for the Saints with a powerful header to cut Southampton’s deficit to 3-2, but the visitors failed to find the equaliser as in-form Nottingham Forest ran off 3-2 winners in the encounter.

Since joining the club in January of 2023, Onuachu has struggled in front of goal but was on fire while on a season-long loan deal at Trabzonspor. He showed positive signs earlier in the season, especially in their 3-2 loss to Liverpool, but suffered an injury that kept him out for several weeks.

Despite returning from injury, he had to wait until now to score his first goal for the club.

The Super Eagles striker expressed his elation at scoring his first goal for the club, particularly in front of the visiting fans. While acknowledging the team’s disappointing loss, he dedicated the goal to the supporters who had remained steadfast throughout his goal-scoring drought.

“It’s a good feeling to score but disappointing to lose. I’m happy that I scored in front of the fans,” Onuachu said after the game

“The away fans have been brilliant; they’ve been supportive despite the fact that we’re at the bottom of the table. They’ve also been cheering for me to get this goal. Kudos to them because they’ve been cheering for me to get my first goal at the club.”

The Nigeria international will be hoping the goal is the start to a good run for him and the club as they look to avoid relegation with 16 games left until the end of the season.
