Nigerian midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin achieved a milestone 50th league start for Rizespor in their Super Lig game on Friday, but the occasion was bittersweet as he was forced off the pitch with an injury during the 1-1 draw against Besiktas.

Despite showing promising form early in the match, the 27-year-old went down just few minutes into the second half. After receiving medical attention, he was unable to continue and was substituted out of the game for Giannis Papanikolaou.

The injury marred what was otherwise a memorable night for Olawoyin who has been a stalwart for Rizespor since joining the team from Keçiörengücü two years year ago. His milestone start was a testament to his dedication and perseverance, and the club will be hoping for a speedy recovery.

Besides the injury, Rizespor needed a result to bounce back from the heavy 3-0 defeat they suffered in their previous match and they got a valuable opening goal in the 38th minute courtesy of Gedson Fernandes’ own goal.

However, their lead did not last long as Earnest Muci equalized on the cusp of half time to level the score-line.

Despite creating way more chances than the opposition, Rizespor were unable to convert their chances and they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the end of the game.

With the draw, Rizespor are now 11th on the table with 21 points in 17 matches. Meanwhile, Besiktas are 5th on the log with 27 points in the same number of games.
