Fenerbache defeated Gaziantep 3-1 in a tense encounter at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, Istanbul, on Monday, December 2nd to close the gap on league leaders, Galatasaray, to 3 points.
Prior to the match, Galatasaray were held by Eyupsor to a 2-2 draw. As such, it was important for the Yellow Canaries to capitalize on the slip up of their rivals as both teams compete for the league title.
Fenerbache began the game in dominant fashion, winning the ball in the opponent’s half and netting in the 3rd minute courtesy of Oguz Aydin’s left-footed shot through the middle of Sokratis Dioudis’ legs.
Fenerbache kept pushing for the second goal, however, they were stunned in the 41st minute as a brilliant cross from Badou Ndiaye found its way to David Okereke who expertly controlled the ball with his chest and fired the shot straight to Livakovic who saved, but could not stop the Nigerian international from scoring the rebound.

Gaziantep defended the draw resolutely until the 78th minute when Dusan Tadic’s delivery from a corner was headed in by Rodrigo Becao to put Fenerbache ahead. Edin Dzeko sealed the win for the home side with an unstoppable volley to the top right corner to make the score line 3-1.
While Gaziantep will be disappointed with the loss, they will be encouraged with the form of David Okereke who has now recorded 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 6 matches for the Falcons. With his goal, he also extends his impressive record against Jose Mourinho. The Nigerian attacker now has 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 games against the elite Portuguese manager.
With the defeat, Gaziantep are now 13th with 15 points in 13 games. They host Rizespor next in the league as they seek to return to winning ways. Fenerbache, meanwhile, will hope to mount even more pressure on Galatasaray as they visit Besiktas in their next league game.
