Following Nigeria’s Super Eagles B draw with the Black Galaxies of Ghana in the African Nations Championship qualifier on Sunday, Stand-in head coach of the team and Remo Stars gaffer, Daniel Ogunmodede spoke to the press, highlighting the importance of CHAN qualification and what it would mean for the domestic league and players in Nigeria.

The first leg of the tie ended in a 0-0 draw at the Accra sports stadium and both sides would meet again on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo to decide who goes through to the tournament which will be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

In his post-match press conference, Ogunmodede stressed the importance of qualification for players, coaches, domestic football and the federation: “This is Nigeria we are talking about. For obvious reasons, the giants of Africa. We know how important it is (CHAN qualification) for our local players, for our league, for what our federation and sports commission is trying to build, and for our young players coming up,” he said. “Not just the players, but also the indigenous coaches,” he added.

“It is important to know that we are trying to go one step ahead of what we were last time as a country and as a federation and to achieve this, there must be something to show for it. So we qualifying will add more to our league and our player’s credibility abroad,” Ogunmodede preached.

He further spoke on proving a point that Nigeria can keep producing talents similar to Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman who have been crowned as the African best players in consecutive years: ”We’ve produced the African best player two years in a row so we want to prove a point, make our football better, and complement how much the federation has been working sporadically to ensure football development and growth for the coaches,” the gaffer declared.
