The most highly anticipated match of the week took center stage as Edo Queens played host to a determined Remo Stars side. With Edo Queens seeking to extend their winning streak and solidify their position as defending champions, Remo Stars were equally driven to make a statement with a monumental victory.

Both teams entered the contest on a high note, having secured back-to-back victories in the league. This impressive run of form had instilled confidence in both teams, but it also meant that one or both of their winning streaks was destined to come to an end.

The first half of the match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. However, it was Edo Queens who ultimately broke the deadlock when Esther Moses expertly converted a penalty kick, giving the hosts a crucial 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Remo Stars Ladies emerged from the locker room with renewed determination and a revitalized sense of purpose. Their efforts paid off in spectacular fashion when Olamide Bolaji scored her third goal of the season, leveling the scoreline and sending the match into a thrilling finale.

Despite the best efforts of both teams, the match ultimately ended in a hard-fought draw, leaving both teams tied on seven points after three matches. Although the result may have been somewhat anticlimactic, it was a testament to the strength and resilience of both teams. In the end, Edo Queens retained their position atop the Group A standings, albeit by the slenderest of margins – a superior goal difference.

Rivers Angels

Another highly anticipated matchup during the week pitted seven-time NWFL champions Rivers Angels against Robo Queens, a team renowned for nurturing the best talents in the country.

Robo Queens’ winning streak had been built on back-to-back victories over Benue Queens and Adamawa Queens. However, their latest challenge – an away fixture against the unbeaten Rivers Angels – promised to be a far more daunting task.

The match got off to a blistering start, with Ifeoma Polinus scoring the opening goal for Rivers Angels. However, Robo Queens quickly responded through Kemi Adegbuji, who leveled the scoreline and ensured the teams went into the halftime break on equal terms.

The second half was a goal-scoring extravaganza, with Rivers Angels netting three times in a devastating 15-minute spell. Aminat Folorunsho, Fasilat Adeyemo, and Peace Effiong, from the penalty spot, all found the back of the net to leave Robo Queens reeling.

Although Chidinma Ogbuchi managed to score a consolation goal for Robo Queens in the 78th minute, it ultimately proved too little, too late. Rivers Angels held on to secure the win, ending Robo Queens’ winning streak and maintaining their own unbeaten record.

The victory propelled Rivers Angels to seven points from three games, leaving them second in Group B, behind leaders Bayelsa United only on goal difference. Meanwhile, Robo Queens dropped to third place with six points from their three outings.

Bayelsa Queens

Bayelsa Queens’ matchup against Benue Queens was widely expected to be a one-sided affair, given the contrasting fortunes of both teams at the start of the season.

With Bayelsa Queens boasting four points from their opening two games, and Benue Queens struggling to find their footing with two losses and seven goals conceded in two games, the outcome seemed all but certain.

As anticipated, the game proved to be a comfortable stroll for Bayelsa Queens who dominated the first half, racing to a commanding three-goal lead courtesy of strikes from Chinwe Akabike, Amblessed Ogbonnaya, and Vera Samuel.

The second half followed a similar script, with Bayelsa Queens continuing to dictate the pace of the game. Amblessed Ogbonnaya added her second goal of the match, further extending her team’s lead. Although Anastasia Emefo managed to score a consolation goal for the home side, it was merely a fleeting moment of joy in an otherwise dismal display.

The win was sealed for Bayelsa Queens when Rita Uduakabong scored a late goal, capping off a resounding victory. With the result, Bayelsa Queens surged to the top of the table, accumulating seven points from their three games. In stark contrast, Benue Queens remain rooted to the bottom of the standings, having suffered three consecutive defeats to start their campaign.

In other results, Heartland Queens finally broke their duck this season, earning a vital point with a gritty 0-0 stalemate against Abia Angels while Nasarawa Amazons piled on the misery for Confluence Queens, notching a slender 1-0 win that condemned the visitors to their third successive defeat.

Ekiti Queens continued to build momentum, chalking up their second victory of the season with a commanding 2-0 win over Dannaz Ladies while Naija Ratels preserved their unbeaten record and celebrated their maiden win of the campaign, outlasting Ibom Angels 2-1 in a nail-biting contest. Also, Adamawa Queens defeated Delta Queens with a resounding 3-0 triumph, securing their first win of the season in emphatic style.
