Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has received recognition for his outstanding performances with Barnsley, earning the Copier Systems Limited Player of the Month award for January.
Despite Barnsley’s disappointing results in the latter weeks of the month, Nwakali was in exceptional form as he played a key role in three of the team’s five matches in January.
This comes after the 26-year-old also won Barnsley’s December Goal of the Month award, thanks to his stunning outside-the-box effort in a thrilling comeback win against Exeter.

Although Barnsley won their first two matches in January, they subsequently lost three consecutive games to Bristol Rovers, Stevenage, and Wycombe, leading to a drop in the League One standings and a five-match winless streak which has now extended to February.
Nonetheless, Barnsley remain only six points behind Huddersfield, who occupy the final playoff spot in the league and the team will be counting on Nwakali’s form to propel them towards securing promotion to the Championship.
Reacting to the award, Nwakali expressed gratitude to the fans who voted for him, promising more impressive performances: “All thanks to God and to all the fans who voted me as the player of the month (January), more good things to come,” he said.
Barnsley will continue their pursuit of promotion when they host Huddersfield on Saturday, aiming to end their five-game winless streak and gain momentum ahead of a crucial part of the season.
