Anthony Nwakaeme marked his return from injury with a goal, but Trabzonspor could only secure a 2-2 draw against Kasimpasa in their Trendyol Super League clash at Papara Park on Friday.
Nwakaeme, who had been sidelined for three weeks after last playing against Fenerbahçe on matchday 11, came off the bench at the start of the second half to inject life into Trabzonspor’s attack. The Nigerian forward’s impact was immediate, and his 82nd-minute strike gave the hosts a brief lead, capping off an impressive comeback from a first-half deficit.
Kasimpasa had drawn first blood in the 38th minute when Cafu converted a penalty after a VAR review ruled that Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır had fouled Nuno Da Costa in the box. Despite creating several chances, Trabzonspor failed to find the net in the first half and entered the break trailing.
The second half saw the introduction of Nwakaeme and Enis Destan, which rejuvenated Trabzonspor’s play. In the 78th minute, Simon Banza leveled the score with a well-taken penalty after Kevin Rodrigues fouled Destan. Just four minutes later, Nwakaeme latched onto Pedro Malheiro’s cross, firing past goalkeeper Giannotis to give the home side a 2-1 lead.
However, Kasimpasa refused to relent and snatched a late equalizer in stoppage time through Nuno Da Costa, who turned in Josip Brekalo’s delivery to silence the home crowd. A last-gasp effort from the visitors was ruled offside after VAR intervention, ensuring the points were shared.
Both teams now sit on 16 points in the league standings, failing to climb significantly after this result. Trabzonspor will be hoping Nwakaeme’s return signals better fortunes as they aim to recover from a challenging season marred by injuries to key players like Stefan Savic and Okay Yokuşlu.
