Former Nigeria international Anthony Nwakaeme has recommended his compatriot and former Shooting Stars winger, Sodiq Awujoola, to his Turkish club, Trabzonspor.
Nwakaeme, who recently rejoined Trabzonspor after a two-year stint in Saudi Arabia, believes Awujoola could be a valuable long-term addition to their left-wing attack.
The 36-year-old veteran, approaching the end of his career, has praised Awujoola’s potential, suggesting the 24-year-old winger can achieve similar success at Trabzonspor as he did during his own successful spell with the club.
Awujoola, currently on loan to Pyramid FC from Cleopatra FC in Egypt, is valued at €1.2 million by Transfermarkt. He has impressed in Egypt, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven league matches.
Nwakaeme expressed his confidence in Awujoola’s ability, stating, “He will leave a mark on Trabzonspor as much as I did. He won’t be worse than me if I retire. He will be as good as me.”
Awujoola, who previously played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan from 2019 to 2021 before moving to Egypt, could be an attractive and cost-effective option for Trabzonspor compared to more expensive European targets. However, a summer transfer window move is more likely at this stage.
