League leaders of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Remo Stars, have opened up a ten-point gap at the top of the league with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Kwara United at the Remo Stars stadium on Thursday.

Remo Stars were determined to return to winning ways after their recent defeat to Enugu Rangers, while Kwara United aimed to extend their winning streak to three games following victories over Shooting Stars and Bayelsa United.

The game started with Remo Stars pushing for an early goal, and they nearly achieved it in the 12th minute when Tochukwu Michael’s curler hit the woodwork. The midfielder’s subsequent free kick was tipped over the bar by the goalkeeper, denying Remo Stars an early lead.

Remo Stars continued to press for a goal, with Sikiru Alimi’s effort hitting the bar and Olamilekan Adebayo shooting wide. Despite their dominance, the first half ended with neither team able to break the deadlock.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Remo Stars creating chances but unable to convert them. Nduka Junior’s flicked header hit the woodwork, and it seemed like it wasn’t going to be Remo Stars’ day.

However, the home side finally scored in the 80th minute through Samuel Anakwe’s header, which came after Nduka Junior’s free kick was saved by the goalkeeper. The goal sparked a late surge from Kwara United, but Remo Stars’ defense held firm before Haruna Hadi scored a late goal to secure all three points.
