Super Eagles legend Victor Ikpeba has voiced his optimism about Nigeria’s chances in the AFCON 2025, predicting that they will advance beyond the group stage.

Ikpeba’s confidence stems from the recent draws, where Nigeria was drawn alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania in Group C on Monday at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.

While admitting that the group will be difficult, Victor Ikpeba maintained his belief in the team’s ability to qualify from the group stage: “We have made a lot of progress in African football, we saw what happened in the last Nations Cup. Most of the favourites have to earn their qualification to the next round but I’ll take Nigeria’s group. I think we can do the job against Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda will be difficult, every match will be difficult.”

Ikpeba also acknowledged the challenges the team faced in the previous Nations Cup but remained convinced that the Super Eagles possess the necessary skills to progress: “We saw how difficult it was in the last Nations Cup but I think our boys have what it takes to get out of the group although it will be very difficult.”

Ikpeba commented on the toughness of other groups, particularly Group B which is widely regarded as the group of death: “I won’t like to be in the Egypt, South Africa and Angola group, that is a very difficult group but it is true that to win the Nations Cup, you have to win the bigger countries.”

Ikpeba concluded by reiterating his faith in the Super Eagles’ ability to advance from their group: “I think we have a fair group. With due respect to Tanzania and Uganda, I think the Super Eagles will get out of that group.”

With the group stage draws now finalized, the teams will begin preparing for the AFCON 2025 tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.
