The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has unveiled its comprehensive program of activities for 2025, following its board meeting in January.
The NBBF’s 2025 program, approved by President Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has been dubbed “Consolidation Time” by stakeholders and enthusiasts.
The program kicks off with the Nigeria Senior Female Basketball team, D’Tigress, participating in a friendly tournament in Belarus from February 5-9, 2025. The D’Tigers will then compete in the 2025 FIBA AFRO Basket qualifiers in Tripoli, Libya, from February 17-25, 2025.
March 2025 will be a busy month, featuring the 1st Phase of NBBF Divisions 1&2 2024 season, the Finals of NBBF Divisions 1&2 2024 season, and the 1st Phase of Women Zenith Bank League Division 1.
Additionally, the NBBF Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Stakeholders Forum will take place between February and March at a venue to be decided.
In April 2025, the BAL Season 5 will commence, with Nigeria’s representatives Rivers Hoppers competing in the championship held in Rabat, Morocco; Dakar, Senegal; Kigali, Rwanda; and Pretoria, South Africa.
Refresher courses for Technical Officials will also be held in Lagos and Abuja in April 2025 while the first Phase of the NBBF Men Premier Basketball League and the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League will take place in the same month.
May and June 2025 will feature the first phase U19 Girls National camps in Nigeria/USA for the World Championship, followed by the National U16 & U18 Boys and Girls Championship.
The NBBF Board Meeting will also be held during this period, along with the 2nd Phase of NBBF Men’s Premier Basketball League, 2nd Phase of Zenith Bank Premier Women League, and national camps for U16 boys and girls. The FIBA Zone 3 U16 African Championship qualifiers (Boys & Girls) will also take place during this time.
Between July and August 2025, D’Tigress will open camp in Nigeria/USA for the FIBA Women’s Afro Basket 2025. The National U19 Girls camp will also be held during this period, followed by the FIBA Women’s Afro Basket in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire from July 25 to August 3, 2025.
The Zenith Bank Women’s Premier league Conference finals will also take place in July-August 2025.
The FIBA Men’s Afrobasket 2025 will be held in Luanda, Angola from August 12-24, 2025, along with the NBBF Men’s Premier League Conference finals and the FIBA African U16 championship (Boys & Girls).
September 2025 will feature the finals of State preliminaries for the Total National Division 2 championship, the NBBF Men’s Basketball League Final 8, and the Zenith Bank National Division 1 female national league eliminations.
In October 2025, the NBBF Board Meeting will be held, along with the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League finals, the 1st Phase of BAL Qualifiers, and FIBA Africa 3 AWBL Qualifiers.
The final months of the year, November and December 2025, will be packed with events, including the Total National Divisions 1&2 league Divisional playoffs, the knockout phase of the 2027 FIBA Men’s World Cup, and the Total National Division 2 Conference playoffs.
The year will conclude with the Elite 16 BAL Qualifiers 2025, FIBA AWBL 2025 finals, Total National Division 1&2 league finals, the NBBF AGM and Awards Night, and the NBBF Board Meeting.
