Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi has embarked on a new chapter in her career, signing with Ottawa Rapid to compete in the Canadian Northern Super League.
The veteran 31-year-old recently returned to football after taking time off on maternity leave. She gave birth to a baby boy in September of 2022 and is returning to football four months later.
Okobi, an attacking midfielder who began her career with Delta Queens, found success on the international club scene. She joined the Washington Spirit in 2015 before moving to Sweden with Vittsjö Gymnastik—och Idrottsklubb. She had her most successful club career with Eskilstuna United in Sweden, making 107 appearances and scoring seven goals.
She last represented FC Levante Las Planas in the Spanish Liga F before taking a break from football.
On the national team, she represented Nigeria at two FIFA Women’s World Cups and, as a starter, won four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles with the Super Falcons.
Speaking on the Nigerian star’s qualities, Ottawa Rapids technical director Kristina Kiss believes that she would be a good signing for the club.

“Ngozi Sonia Okobi-Okeoghene is a dynamic, offensively minded player with a wealth of experience at the highest levels of the game,” Kristina Kiss said. “Her strong 1 vs. 1 attacking abilities make her a constant threat on the ball, and her sharp decision-making ensures she’s always creating dangerous opportunities for her team.”
With her experience in the United States, Europe, and the national team, Okobi is expected to be a top asset for Ottawa Rapid.
