Precious Achiuwa logged 28 minutes in his second game of the season for the New York Knicks. Despite contributing six points and a game-high 10 rebounds, the Knicks fell short to the Detroit Pistons, 120-111.
In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Achiuwa also showcased his versatility with four assists, a steal, and a block. His return marked a significant milestone after missing 21 games due to a hamstring injury.
While some rust was evident in his performance, head coach Thomas Thibodeau expressed satisfaction with Achiuwa’s effort and intensity.
“He’s been out a long time, so there’s a lot of rust. But I thought about his reaction to the ball. He was the one guy getting to the ball. But his timing is not quite there yet. But each day it’ll get better, so he gave us some good energy.”
Fellow Nigerian, OG Anunoby, also made a solid contribution for the Toronto Raptors, scoring 17 points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out two assists. All-Star guard Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with a game-high 23 points and 10 assists.
Cade Cunningham spearheaded the Pistons’ victory with a dominant triple-double performance, tallying 29 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds.
