Super Eagles winger Moses Simon returned to the pitch after a successful surgery and recovery as Nantes secured a point against Monaco in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Friday.
Prior to the match, Moses Simon last played on December 15 against Brest as Nantes head coach Antoine Kombouaré revealed after the game that the Nigerian player underwent surgery to remove the plate and screws from his ankle, which had been causing discomfort due to a previous fibula fracture.
Following a three-week absence, Moses Simon made a swift return to the starting lineup, resuming his customary left-wing role alongside midfield duo Douglas Augusto and Johann Lepenant, and right-winger Sorba Thomas.
Nantes flew out of the blocks, with Mathis Abline netting in the 12th minute, before Kelvin Amian struck early in the second half to extend the home side’s lead.
Refusing to give up, Monaco launched a spirited comeback, with Breel Embolo striking five minutes after Amian’s goal, and Mohammed Salisu soon following to bring the scores level.
Monaco pushed hard to complete their turnaround, unleashing a barrage of attacks on Nantes, but the hosts held firm in defense to secure a hard-earned draw.
The draw leaves Nantes 14th in the standings with 16 points from 17 matches, narrowly avoiding the relegation zone solely due to their goal difference. The return of Moses Simon to full fitness brings hope that the team can build momentum to secure their Ligue 1 safety.
