Bayer Leverkusen has further strengthened its attacking options with the signing of Argentine teenager Alejo Sarco from Velez Sarsfield. According to German news outlet Bild, via Yahoo Sport, the deal is finalized, securing Sarco for the German club until 2030.
Sarco joins the squad as an additional striker, providing depth behind established forwards Patrik Schick and Victor Boniface. While expected to learn from the experienced duo, Sarco will also undoubtedly vie for a starting spot.
Competition for the center-forward position is already fierce between Schick and Boniface. Boniface, the current first-choice striker, has impressed this season with six goals in ten league games. However, a recent hamstring injury sidelined him for five matches.
In Boniface’s absence, Schick has been in scintillating form, netting nine goals in his last five league games, including a four-goal haul in their 5-1 demolition of Freiburg.
With the league set to resume in January and the arrival of Sarco, the competition for a starting role amongst the three strikers is set to intensify significantly.
