AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has explained why he favours Yunus Musah over Samuel Chukwueze for the right-sided role.

In a pre-match press conference ahead of their Serie A clash with Atalanta on Saturday, Fonseca cited defensive strength as a key factor.

He acknowledged Chukwueze’s improvement but highlighted Musah’s defensive strength as a key factor in his selection decisions.

“I remember talking about Chukwu two games ago. He’s adapting well. When we need this role on the right, he’s progressing. There’s no problem with him,” Fonseca was quoted by Milan News.

However, he emphasized that Musah remains the stronger defensive option. “If we think he’s stronger defensively than Musah, no. But he can play this role in some games,” he added.

The 25-year-old has seen limited play time this season, starting only six league games and coming in for another seven, playing the full 90 minutes only once.

He scored a brace on Tuesday as they defeated Sausoolo 6-1 in the Copa Italia on Tuesday.
