Super Eagles striker Keleancho Iheanacho is nearing an exit from Sevilla, with Championship side Middlesbrough reportedly optimistic about securing his signature before the transfer deadline.

Iheanacho has been linked to several English and European clubs, who are looking to capitalize on his limited playing time at Sevilla to sign him during the January transfer window.

Kelechi Iheanacho made the switch to Sevilla on July 31, 2024 on a free transfer, bringing an end to his seven-year tenure at Leicester City, where he had established himself as a prolific goal-scorer.

However, since joining the Spanish outfit, Iheanacho has struggled to replicate his form and secure regular playing time, managing only five starts in La Liga matches and two starts in Copa Del Rey games, where he has scored a total of three goals.

The recent acquisition of fellow Nigerian forward Akor Adams from Montpellier has further complicated Iheanacho’s situation, pushing him down the team’s pecking order and making it increasingly clear that a move away from Sevilla is necessary for him to revive his career, with Adams having already made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Getafe while Iheanacho remained on the bench for the whole of the game.

According to football journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Middlesbrough are optimistic about securing the loan signing of not only Kelechi Iheanacho but also Samuel Iling-Junior, before the transfer deadline.

However, Middlesbrough’s potential capture of Kelechi Iheanacho, in particular, is a development that has generated considerable excitement, as the team is eager to strengthen its attacking options in pursuit of a playoff spot and, ultimately, promotion to the Premier League, with Iheanacho’s proven goal-scoring prowess seen as a vital asset in achieving this ambition.
